Known as the boating capital of Victoria, Paynesville is a popular seaside resort on the Gippsland lakes. It is located approximately 3.5 hrs drive east of Melbourne and just 16 kms from Bairnsdale. Surrounded by the Gippsland lakes on three sides, Paynesville has an extensive canal system, offering waterfront properties, which enable owners to berth boats at their front door. The canals offer sheltered moorings for yachts, cruisers and anglers, with plenty of waterways around for windsurfers, jet skiers and water skiers.
Close by is Raymond Island, which has attractive shorelines and plentiful bushland, which can be accessed either by boat or on the car ferry. The Island is home to a number of birds and animals and a favourite pastime for visitors is to go "Koala" spotting.
